to make our country great, one need not participate in politics. there are several fields in which one can take part and serve the people. if a person is selected as an IAS or IPS, he can cater to the needs of the public and do more service to the public. one can join in NGOs and strive hard for the betterment of the marginalized sections of the society. one can write poetry and and mobilize people towards a good cause. one should have determination to make the country prosperous and need not be a politician.

Though, its a good idea that the young generation should take active part in politics. It is need of the hour also. But we should not forget that, politics has its own dynamics. Indian Democratic set up has been developed in such a way that it nourishes only dynastic politics and children of politicians have the upper hand, as they have to bothered about regular career.
If we look at the other side of the picture, then we can see that normal middle class youth is too engrossed in struggle for his survival — career is most important and so are the other basic needs of modern life. For him working towards above mention needs is more important then taking active part in politics.

If you mean Why can’t the voting age be lowered, many politicians believe it ought to be lowered to 16, because that is the school leaving age, the age at which people can legally have sex, and the age at which you can start full time work, and therefore paying income tax.(There is a widespread belif that it is right that representation in parliament should go hand in hand with the taxation which raises the monewy parliament spends.)
In Scotland, young people of 16 can vote in elections for Community Councils, and can be Communbity Councillors themselves.
There are also Youth Parliaments.
And I think all the parties have organisations for young people. My party is Labour, and we have Young Labour, whose members have full representation on the National and Scottish Executives, and participate fully in the policy making of the party.
The more young people who take an active part in politics, the better, is my view!”!!

The present day youth are least bothered about the Nation and its progress. They have their job and secure, they need not depend upon the government at all. This attitude of the youth is reflected in the number of youth who exercises their franchise in the elections. The miserably low percentage of votes polled and the consequesntly people with criminal background getting elected and thus taking the reins of admn is causing untold misery to the nation

Depends on how young, what kind of action and what country you’re talking about. I can’t say for other countries which may or may not have restrictions upon their youth or political process but young people can be very active in the U.S.. They are just restricted from certain activities (like voting) until they come of age.

What a great idea! I think it would be better than what we got now…..but what you got to understand is that: 1) good sense is not what the government does, 2) the “government” does not want anyone in office who is incorruptible, 3) The government is actually for the gov’t, of the gov’t and by the gov’t, not the way you’ve heard it. If young peeps run the country then how would old gov’t peeps feed their greed. Besides, look what they did to the last youngster….JFK….

The young generation of to-day, is self indulgent and lacking in the will to work for others. They need to have a sense of idealism with which the Statesmen of yesteryear were imbued .

they just want to watch football and MTV. They will vote for whichever candidate promises to take care of them and give them free stuff.
Why worry about politics if you can just vote for a candidate who says he cares about you?
